  1. Place an order: External Link
  2. After placing your order and payment:
    1. Your chosen combination will be removed from the market so no one else can purchase it
    2. You will be granted the Right to Receive the plates (or another recipients name if purchased as a gift).
    3. Your paperwork including details of how to get your plate made will be emailed/posted (depending on your preference) to you.
    4. Your details and plate information is downloaded to the Government Plate Manufacturer
  3. Having your plates made: Follow the instructions on the paperwork you. Note: The Government plate manufacturing & transaction fees will be paid by the company provided you request your plates to be made within 90 calendar days of your payment completion. However, if you have your plates made outside the 90 calendar days you will be required to pay any applicable fees directly to the plate manufacturer upon requesting your plates.
  4. Once all your details are in and your payment for the manufacturing of the license plate have cleared, delivery usually occurs in:
    7-10 working days for a standard personalised plate.
    Up to 15 working days for graphic plates (e.g. Message, Euro, Flame, Flower, Star Signs etc.)
  5. Plates will be posted to your chosen address. When your new personalised plates are delivered, enclosed will also be a replacement registration sticker. Your new plates should be placed on your car within 5 working days.
  6. Put your old plates in the postage bag the new plates arrived in and remove the address label to reveal the address your old plates should be returned to.

Processing TimeEdit

Once all your details are in and your payment for the manufacturing of the license plate have cleared, delivery usually occurs in:

  • 7-10 working days for a standard personalised plate
  • Up to 15 working days for graphic plates (e.g. Message, Euro, Flame, Flower, Star Signs etc.)

Plates will be posted to your chosen address.

InstructionsEdit

Personalised plate:

  • Characters:
    • For cars or trucks: you can have up to and including 6 characters.
    • For motorcycles, trailers or tractor: you are limited to 5 characters or less.
  • Spacing: If you have less than the maximum number of characters on your plate you can have some spacing on your plate. Full spaces can be divided down to 1/2 or 1/4 spaces. Also, for every "I" or "1" in your plate, you can have an additional 1/2 space to play around with.


All plates in NZ including personalised plates are made by the Government Plate Manufacturer. Rights to receive a certain combination of numbers/letters are sold by Personalised Plates Ltd.

Need for the DocumentEdit

You may obtain personalised plate even if you do not own a vehicle. However, in order to get your plates made, they must be going to be attached to a currently licensed and registered (in NZ) vehicle (and placed on that vehicle within 5 days of receiving them).
