  1. Book for the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) by phoning 13 22 13 or booking online.
  2. Take the test at a NSW registry office. Bring along your license, proof of identity and means to pay for your P2 driver license.
  3. If you pass the test, you can proceed to your P2 driver license.

Provisional licenses have two stages. After completing the minimum required tenure period on your P1 license you can attempt the Hazard Perception Test (HPT). If successful, you can proceed to the P2 license.

The Hazard Perception Test (HPT) is a touch-screen computer test which measures your ability to recognize and respond to potentially dangerous situations. Research has shown that a lack of these skills is a major factor in crashes, particularly those involving young drivers.
