Procedure

Apply In-Person (For Group Booking)

1. Student Concessions for group of students could be availed by visiting the nearest Zonal Office in-person Zonal Offices
2. To get concession in train tickets, prepare a form in excel sheet with the information of the students as provided under “Required Information”
3. Fill all the details of the form and sign the form.
4. Get the form counter signed by Principal / Head of the Department.
5. A recommendation letter by the Principal/ HOD on the letterhead of your college has to be provided.
6. The letter must address the Chief Commercial Superintendent requesting to grant permission to book tickets under student concession. The letter should contain

   • The purpose of visit
   • Date of outward journey and destination station
   • Date of back journey and home town/city

7. Submit the concession form at the nearest Zonal office to the Chief Commercial Superintendent. Inquire the officer about your next visit to the zonal office to collect the letter authorizing the concession.
8. After receiving his letter, submit the letter to the chief booking supervisor at the reservation office. Inquire the officer about your next visit and get an acknowledgement regarding your concession (Every Major Railway Station has a Reservation Office).
9. On your next visit, if your concession is granted, make your payment at the counter and check and collect the papers of your booking.

• Aadhar card
• Voter photo identity card
• Passport
• Driving License

Passengers under the following categories are eligible for concession:

• You should be a student studying in any college
• Bonafide students up to age of 25 years (27 years in case of Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes)

• The concessional ticket’s validity is subject to the date and place of journey.

Need for the Document

• Passengers who are eligible under student category of concession can buy train tickets at lower price compared to the standard rates.

Information which might help

• Student Concession tickets are applicable only in Sleeper Class (SL) and 2nd Sitting (2S).
• Concession shall be admissible only in respect of basic fares. No concession is admissible in respect of other charges, viz. superfast surcharge, reservation fee, etc.
• Passengers are allowed to apply for only one type of concession.
• Student Concession could be availed for the below travel conditions:
• Between Home Town & place of education during the period of vacation.
• To appear for exams conducted by recognized educational institutions.
• Educational Tours in groups of not less than 10 (Ten). Not less than 4 (Four) in case of students from Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, J & K, Manipur, Mizoram & Arunachal Pradesh.
