Apply through Phone Call

  • You can apply by calling "14567" which is a National Helpline for the Elders and they should be able to facilitate you to get a Senior Citizen Certifiate or Identity Card.

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for senior citizen certificate in New Delhi, applicant has to approach the Joint secretary of Social Defence Division link
  2. Obtain the relevant application form from the authorities.
  3. Make sure that you have all the proper documents mentioned in the “Required documents” section below.
  4. Submit the form to the Joint secretary office along with the required documents.
  5. After the application form is processed, an enquiry officer will make a thorough verification regarding your proof which you have submitted along with the form.
  6. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  7. After 10 days, applicant use that acknowledgment slip to obtain the senior citizen certificate.

  1. To Apply for Senior Citizen Certificate, the applicant has to make the application online via the following link link
  2. The applicant has to click “Register as senior citizen” and enter mobile number and date of birth.
  3. Next the applicant has to select the service and enter all necessary details in the application form.
  4. The applicant has to upload all the required documents that are mentioned in required documents section of this page.
  5. Review the application and click “submit”. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement. The applicant will also get a transaction number as a text message on their registered mobile number.
  6. Applicant has to make necessary payment and don’t forget to take the receipt.
  7. This application will be forwarded to the respective department for further processing.
  8. ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. Please keep track of the notification.
  9. The submitted application will be processed by the department. A designated authority will verify the submitted documents and inspect the area of the applicant to clarify the applicant’s details.
  10. Based on the outcome of the above-mentioned steps and other internal processing, the designated issuing authority will decide on the issuance of the Certificate.
  11. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection will be conveyed to the applicant through an “SMS” or applicable norms.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Senior citizen certificate is mandatory to avail these benefits:

  • Railway concession – 30% (60 years) and separate counters for booking.
  • Air travel concession – 50% on basic fare only (65 years).
  • Some private hospitals discount – 30% (60 years).
  • Government Hospital treatment free of cost – (60 years).
  • Banks give extra interest – 1/2% (60 years).
  • Post office investment upto Rs.15 lakhs gives higher interest (60 years).
  • High court will give priority in hearing – (65 years).
  • Local trains/ best buses have reserved sitting.
  • Income tax relief. Also, senior citizens must get their refunds within 90 days of filing the returns.
  • Priority for giving ration (60 years) and also at a lower price
  • NGO’s get financial assistance upto 90% of the project cost for building an old-age home.
  • Monthly pension to senior citizens by the state government.
