Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Farm Fuel Tax Exemption Certificate in person, the applicant has to visit the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries.

  3. The applicant has to visit the office and obtain a Farmer Purchaser’s Permit Application/ Farm Business Registry Form, from the relevant department or click here to download Application form
  4. While visiting the office, the applicants should carry the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to complete the application with required details in respective fields under each section.
  6. After that, the applicant should attach the required documents with the completed form and submit it to the relevant official.
  7. Then, the applicant should pay the required fees for the process through any of the available payment modes. The fees details can be obtained from the office.
  8. Then, the submitted application and attached documents will be assessed and verified.
  9. Upon completion of the assessment and verification, the applicant will be intimated through phone or email to collect the approved Farmer Purchaser’s Permit.


Apply through email

  1. To apply for Farm Fuel Tax Exemption Certificate through email, the applicant has to send an email application to the email address of the Registrar of Farms.

  6. After that, the applicant should make scanned copies of the application form and the required documents. The scanned copies should be then sent to the email address above.
  7. Then, the applicant should pay the required fees for the process through any of the available payment modes. The fees details can be obtained from the office.
  8. Then, the submitted application and attached documents will be assessed and verified.
  9. Upon completion of the assessment and verification, the applicant will be intimated through phone or email to collect theapproved Farmer Purchaser’s Permit.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any Farm producer in New Brunswick, that wishes to get exemption from the Farm Fuel Tax, can apply.
  • The applicants must have registered as Registered Professional Agricultural Producers with the Department of Agriculture.
  • They must be actively and directly farming by controlling farming assets and making the day-to-day management decisions.
  • They must have annual farm commodity production worth at least $10,000 or $5,000 to $9,999 if the only other significant sources of income are Canada Pension Plan or Old Age Security.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Farm producers in New Brunswick who are eligible for exemption in the tax for the fuel that they purchase for the purpose of usage in their farms, must possess a Farmer Purchaser’s Permit, to avail the stipulated exemption.
  • Upon obtaining the permit, the qualifying consumer may make tax-exempt purchases of motive fuel consumed within a qualifying area.
