InstructionsEdit
- For Dutch nationals who are living or staying temporarily abroad, they could apply for a passport at a Dutch embassy or consulate.
- For some countries, a Dutch national could also apply for an identity card at the embassy or consulate provided that you reside in the territory served by the embassy or consulate and are not listed on a municipal population register in the Netherlands.
- A Dutch national could have both a passport and identity card.
- It is required for a Dutch national to appear in person at the embassy or consulate to apply for a travel document and to collect it.
- For emergency, an embassy or consulate can issue a temporary travel document (an emergency passport or a laissez-passer), on which you can leave the country. If possible, such a document is issued on the same day and otherwise within a few days. An emergency document is more expensive than a regular travel document.
- For those who have travel document that expires while you are temporarily in the Netherlands, you can apply for a new travel document at the Foreign Documents Department (Afdeling Landelijke Taken) of the municipalities of The Hague, Maastricht and Echt-Susteren.
