Procedure

1. To apply for a citizenship certificate the applicant has to contact the office of district administration where you were born or the nearby consulate or embassy of Nepal.
2. Please make sure you have collected all the necessary documents that are listed under the Required Documents section of this page.
3. Once you approach one of the offices, you will be requested to fill up an application form.
4. You would have to submit the completed application form along with the required documents to the authorities.
5. Please follow the instructions provided by the authorities.

• Photocopy of
  • Birth certificate
  • Mark sheet of your completion of school level, high school level + (any recent completion of academic qualification)
• Carry citizenship certificate of your parents as well
• Your recent passport size photos at least carry 4 copies each.
• Your marriage certificate (if you have)
• Citizenship of your husband.
• Academic qualification certificates or character certificate

Eligibility

• People of age crossing 16 years and born from parents of Nepali nationality are eligible.
• For foreigners wanting to get the citizenship should fulfill following criteria:
  • Able to speak and write in Nepali.
  • Engaged in any occupation in Nepal.
  • Relinquished citizenship of another state.
  • Resided in Nepal for at least 15 years.
  • Citizen of a country where there is legal provision or a custom to provide naturalized citizenship to Nepali nationals and
  • Should have good conduct and character.
• Woman who is married to a Nepali citizen may submit an application to become a citizen of Nepal. She should provide proof of her marriage to Nepali citizen and should relinquish her citizenship of another state.

Fees

You need around NPR 600 to 800.

Validity

This card is valid for your lifetime.

Instructions

To obtain this:
You need to visit the district administration office of your permanent address.

Required Information

Information that needs to be filled up is:

• Date of birth
• Place of birth
• Father's name
• Mother's name
• Permanent address (zone, district, municipality/VDC, ward no)
• Temporary address
• Husband's name (if you have)
• Address

Need for the Document

Citizenship is basically a proof of your identity as a citizen of the country you were born or the country you want to be citizen of. It is prerequisites to obtain any other legal documents of the country.
It is important as it guarantees and allows citizens to exercise his/her rights and claim state protection and social benefits.

• This card can be used as proof of your identity to obtain any other official documents.
