The Nebraska Division of Vital Records (Nebraska Vital Records) issues certified copies of Nebraska birth certificates for events which occurred within the State of Nebraska.
Birth Certificates are available for events that occurred within the State of Nebraska from 1904 to present.
A legal copy of a birth certificate cannot be issued without proper purpose (http://www.sos.state.ne.us/rules-and-regs/regsearch/Rules/Health_and_Human_Services_System/Title-174/Chapter-3.pdf). You may obtain a birth certificate for yourself, your spouse, your parent, or your child.
Be sure that you meet the above proper purpose before applying for a copy of a birth certificate. The fee for the search will be kept if no record is found or the right person has not asked for the record. You will be notified in writing if no record is found or the proper purpose has not been met.
Requesting through internet: The person making the application must fax an enlarged and readable photocopy of their current government issued photo identification, i.e. current driver's license, to 402-742-2385 or attach the current government issued photo id to an email and send to [email protected] . It takes 7 to 10 working days to process the application.
The "Certificate of Birth Resulting in Stillbirth" Application must be applied for by mail or walk-in, not through the Internet or VitalChek.
Genealogy applications must be applied for by mail or walk-in, not through the Internet or VitalChek.

Need for the DocumentEdit

You may need a birth certificate when enrolling in school, applying for a social security card or for certain legal proceedings. This can prove frustrating when you do not have a copy immediately on hand.
