Mozambique - How to get a Halal Certificate

Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. A dining facility, food industry, caterer and those involved in food processing or service should obtain the halal certification or get certified. The applicant shall approach the respective office of the “Ministry of Health” as appropriate.

4. The applicant shall approach the government approved firm to supervise the unit or service to issue certification.
5. Also, an approved auditor will evaluate the certification process.
6. The applicant shall get the contact details about the supervising firm and auditor from the health ministry.
7. During the period of evaluation and audit, the samples will sent for laboratories to confirm the quality.
8. The auditing at the workplace will be carried out to ensure the paper works have necessary details in support of quality of the raw material.
9. Once the above said steps are completed and the results are satisfactory, the halal certification will be issued as per norms.
10. Please pay the fee or charges as applicable.
11. Please follow the evaluating firm and auditor’s advice on timeline for the issue of certificate.

• Valid citizen proof (respective ID’s issued by respective nation)
• Applicant’s proof of identity (identity card / passport / driving licence)
• Company or organization licence or permit related papers
• Documents for raw material usage.
• Copy of fitness and medical certificate from a medical practitioner as per requirement
• Copy of blood test report as per requirement
• X-ray as per requirement
• Passport size photograph (taken not more than three months from the applying date - 6 copies)
• Copy of passport

Eligibility

• All food handlers are eligible to apply.
  
• Any firm/individual whose main duty involves preparing food, like a chef or cook or server, packing and labelling of food packets and bartenders are eligible to apply.
  
• The establishment owners of a food handling business are also eligible to apply.
  
• Those who are 18 years (or as per the age limit set by the department) and above are eligible to apply.
  

Fees

• The applicant shall pay the fee as per requirement.

Validity

• The certificate shall be valid for 1 year or as per the date mentioned on the certificate.

Instructions

• A valid certificate holder is advised to undergo health examination by a registered medical practitioner once in every six months or as per the timeline fixed by the respective department.
• If the result of a medical examination indicates that the handler is suffering from a disease likely to contaminate food, the employer shall prohibit that person from being employed as a food handler.
• A certificate should be displayed at a prominent place and need to be presented when requested.
• Don’t forget to take all the originals of the document along with a copy for applying.
• Incomplete application will be rejected.
• Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.
