Mozambique - Apply for Asylum Visa
ProcedureEdit
1.Upon arrival in the boarder of country, look for competent migration authority / immigration authority, this is any nearby Immigration Service (Servios de Migrao) in the area where you entry into the country is made and declare your arrival;
2.After declaration to the immigration authority, the authority issues recommendation documents authorizing you to travel to Nampula where Maratane camp the only authorized place that receives and registers new asylum seekers in Mozambique is located;
3.When you arrive in Maratane Camp, present the recommendation documents to the authority who shall shelter you in a temporary reception centre as you wait for application processing;
4.During the application processing, documents are examined and interviews are carried out;
5.If approved, the asylum seeker is registered in the refugee database run by government and later assigned to a shelter or plot in the camp; 6.Upon registration, a refugee is issued with an Identification card the Government of Mozambique and in addition the Instituto Nacional de Apoio aos Refugiados (INAR) on behalf of the Government also issues various documents to facilitate movement and residence of refugees and asylum-seekers throughout the country;

3.Applications may be submitted orally or in writing;
4.After being registered an Asylum seeker who does not need assistance or one who can support his / herself can freely move out of the camp;
5.An applicant must be aware of restricted areas for refugees;
6.Do not submit false documents or give false information;
7.Ensure that the reason for cause of fear is genuine;
8.Applicants must be aware that even after approval, a refugee may be expelled upon violation of laws;
9.Applicants must be aware that an application may either be rejected or accepted

Asylum is the legal protection extended to a person by a foreign who can demonstrate a well-founded fear of persecution by government. Prosecution must either be based on nationality, race, political opinion, religion or being a member in a particular social group. The Ministry of Interior is the authorized government ministry that handles all issues relating to asylum seekers and refugees in Mozambique. The Ministry carries out its services through the Immigration Services (Servios de Migrao) and in partnership with world organizations. On the other hand, Maratane camp in Nampula province is the only designated place that receives and registers new asylum seekers in Mozambique;

It is important for asylum seekers to note that though the law in Mozambique grants asylum-seekers and refugees with rights same as those of its nationals, the there are some rights that are restricted in regards to asylums seekers and refugees for instance their right to freedom of movement and right to choose where to reside are restricted; asylum seekers and refugees in Mozambique are banned from residing in the countrys capital (Maputo);
