Monaco - Declare Ownership of a Dangerous Dog
ProcedureEdit
- To apply for the procedure you need to fill up the application form which can be downloaded on line or obtained from the Police Department.
- Submit the filled up application form to the Police Department.
- Your declaration will be registered by the Police Department, and a receipt will be issued to you as proof that you have completed the procedure.
Note:
- Dog owners will bear the civil liability of paying for any damages their dogs may cause.

EligibilityEdit
The following individuals are NOT allowed to own, keep or walk dogs considered as dangerous:
- Individuals under the age of 16
- Adults under guardianship
- Individuals who are convicted of a crime or who have received a prison sentence for acts of violence
- Individuals who have been legally ordered to surrender property or the possession of a dog because it presented a danger for people or pets

Dogs considered as dangerous are divided into two categories:
- First category: attack dogs
- Second category: includes guard dogs and dogs used for defence
The Principality of Monaco forbids the importation, acquisition, possession, selling, giving away or bringing into the territory dogs belonging in the first category.
Dogs considered as dangerous must be muzzled and kept on a leash on the public highway, public places and communal parts of multi-occupancy buildings.
Apart from the places forbidden by the municipality, by law and those with specific signs, dogs classed as forbidden cannot be taken:
- On public transport
- To places frequented by children
- To public events where people assemble, and the places, surrounding areas and access routes used in connection with these events
