Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply to Change, Modify, customize your Vehicle (Bike, Car), the applicant has to approach the nearby Regional Transport Office RTO in their respective state link
2. Visit the Office and get the Application form for notice to modify/alter your motor vehicle from the relevant department.
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
9. Once you have gotten approval, visit a reputed bike workshop and get the colour of your bike changed. Make sure you only use high-quality materials.
10. Go to the RTO with all your documents and the bike and get confirmation and verification that everything is as per the RTO guidelines.
11. Once the RTO has approved the modifications, get the changes marked in your RC book by the relevant RTO official.

    Note: It should be noted that the RTO has prohibited using olive green or military green colours for civilian use, as they are only reserved for the defence forces.

12. This entire process can be completed within 10- 15 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

RTO Rules for Modification

• The base specifications like engine, seating capacity, brake system, etc cannot be modified or altered by the vehicle owner.
• After the bike modification is completed, the vehicle specifications and modifications should be mandatorily updated and recorded in the RTO database.
• The change in colour of the vehicle or painting of any symbol on the vehicle should be approved by the RTO.
• The addition of any accessory should not hamper the functionality of the vehicle.
• Any modification or adjustment that compromises the safety of the riders or the citizens will not be granted.
