Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for a Nursing License, the applicant has to approach the Secretary of Public Education link
- Complete your nursing education and training from an accredited institution or program recognized by the Mexican government.
- Ensure that your program meets the requirements set by the Secretaría de Educación Pública (Secretary of Public Education) or the Comisión Interinstitucional para la Formación de Recursos Humanos para la Salud (Interinstitutional Commission for Health Human Resources Training).
- Pass the proficiency exam known as the Examen General para el Egreso de la Licenciatura en Enfermería (EGEL-ENFERMERÍA) or any other designated exam required by the state or jurisdiction where you plan to practice.
- This exam evaluates your knowledge and competency in nursing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the Spanish language, as nursing practice in Mexico is conducted primarily in Spanish. If Spanish is not your native language, you may need to provide proof of language proficiency, such as a language certificate or passing a language assessment.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further.
- Be prepared for the nursing board or regulatory body to conduct a background check, including verification of your education, work experience, and professional conduct.
- If your application is approved, you will receive your nursing license, granting you legal permission to practice nursing in the specified jurisdiction.
- Keep a copy of your license for your records and ensure it is renewed according to the renewal requirements set by the nursing board or regulatory body.
- This entire process can be completed within 2 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
