Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Notary License, the applicant has to approach the Directory of Notaries of the Mexican Republic link
  2. Complete a law degree program from an accredited Mexican university. Ensure that your law degree meets the requirements set by the National Notarial Law and the State Notarial Law of your chosen jurisdiction.
  3. Acquire practical legal experience by working as a lawyer or legal professional.
  4. Prepare for and pass the notarial exam administered by the State Notarial Law Institute (Instituto de LeyesNotariales del Estado) or a similar authority. The exam typically assesses your knowledge of notarial law, civil law, commercial law, and related subjects.
  5. Once the applicant has passed the notarial exam, seek employment or establish professional relationships with existing notary offices or practitioners. Notaries in Mexico often begin their careers as associates or assistants to experienced notaries.
  6. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  8. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  9. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  10. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  11. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  12. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  13. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  14. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  15. Undergo a background check, which may involve providing character references, verifying your professional and personal history, and demonstrating your good moral character.
  16. If the application is approved, the applicant will receive your Notary License. The licensing authority will officially appoint you as a Notary Public, granting you the legal authority to perform notarial acts.
  17. This entire process can be completed within 15 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
