Need for the DocumentEdit

  • The National Housing Fund (Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda para los Trabajadores - INFONAVIT) in Mexico is a government agency that was created to address the housing needs of formal workers in the country.
  • INFONAVIT operates as part of the Mexican social security system and is one of the largest mortgage lenders in Latin America.

Information which might helpEdit

The primary objectives of INFONAVIT are:

  • Providing Affordable Housing: INFONAVIT's main goal is to help formal workers access affordable housing. It does this by providing mortgage loans to eligible workers, allowing them to purchase or build a home.
  • Collecting Housing Savings: Employers in Mexico are required to contribute a percentage of their employees' salaries to the INFONAVIT fund. These contributions form a savings fund for workers, which can be used as a down payment for a home.
  • Granting Mortgage Loans: INFONAVIT offers mortgage loans to eligible workers, allowing them to finance the purchase of a home. The amount of the loan depends on the worker's accumulated savings and other factors such as their salary and creditworthiness.
  • Offering Housing Subsidies: INFONAVIT provides housing subsidies to eligible workers, which can further reduce the cost of purchasing a home.
  • Promoting Housing Development: INFONAVIT works to promote the development of housing projects and urban planning initiatives to improve housing options for workers.
