- In January every year, the Office of the Electoral Commissioner official shall conduct a door-to-door registration of electors.
- On the publicized date, the official will visit the applicant’s house and issue the applicant form B to be completed by the head of the house along with a guide on how to complete the form while newly qualified electors will have to fill in a declaration of qualification (Form C).
- Upon completing the relevant forms, the Electoral Commissioner officials will submit the form/s to the Office of the Electoral Commissioner.
- The Data collected on the prescribed Forms shall be used for the compilation of provisional registers (Electors' lists).
- Once the Electors' lists are made, the list will be made available for consultation by the public during a fortnight at various registration centers throughout Mauritius (after office hours on weekdays and Saturdays). This consultation usually happens in April or May, however, the dates are widely publicized in the press, on radio, and TV, as well as utilizing notices and posters affixed in conspicuous places.
- On the publicized date, the applicants (members of the public) are required to visit the registration centres along with the required documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below to either apply for registration of their names, if the latter does not appear in the relevant electors' lists or for corrections to entries concerning the applicant, by filling in appropriate forms available at the centres.
- Upon filling the relevant form and the applicant’s document being verified at the centres, the applicant will be fully registered as an elector (voter).
