Apply In Person
- To apply for a Death certificate in Mauritius, the applicant should make the application to the Central Civil Status Office in Port Louis or at the Civil Status Office where the event was registered. Please view the Civil Status Division (CSD) contact details through this Contact Details.
- The applicant should visit the Civil Status Division office where the entry of the Death was registered and obtain the application form for applying for the Death certificate.
- Complete the application form as required and obtain all the required documents and attach them to the application form.
- The applicant should visit the Civil Status office and submit the application along with all the required documents to the official at the service desk for free.
- The Civil Status Division official will verify the application and check if all the required documentation is provided and if the form is completed accordingly.
- After the verification, the official will initiate the processing of the Death certificate.
- Once the certificate is processed it will be issued to the applicant in a hard copy document within three days.
- Note: If divorced, neither spouse is allowed to apply for the Death certificate of his or her previous spouse.
Apply From Abroad
- To apply for a Death certificate from abroad, the applicant should make the application to the Civil Status Division either by E-mail, Fax, Post, or through a representative residing in Mauritius. Note: All the applications for the Death certificate either by fax or email should be forward directly only to the Central Civil Status Office. Please view the contact details for the application from abroad in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below.
- If the applicant intends to apply for the Death certificate through a proxy residing in Mauritius, the applicant should obtain and complete the Authorisation Letter for application of Civil Status Documents from Abroad. The form can be downloaded through this Authorization letter.
- The applicant should then complete the authorization letter and send it to the representative in Mauritius.
- Then the applicant should contact the Civil Status Office in Mauritius through their contact details and inform them of the full names of the representative who will be submitting the application on behalf of the applicant prior to the application being made.
- Upon informing the Civil Status Office of the representative's full names, the representative should then proceed and apply for the Death certificate on behalf of the applicant at the Civil Status Office.
- If the applicant is making the applicant by him/her self through the post, email, or fax, the applicant should make payments for the application either by drawing a cheque to the order of the Government of Mauritius and payable in Mauritius.
- The applicant can also pay the postage fee by making the requisite fee through the bank, however, upon disputing the fee via the bank, the applicant should notify the Civil Status Office and send proof/copy of the transaction to the office.
- Upon payment of the requisite fee and verification of all the required documents, the Death certificate will be processed and sent to the applicant through the proper channel.

- Individuals whose death was registered in Mauritius are eligible to apply.
FeesEdit
- The Fee for a civil registry certificate is free, however, fees are applicable for postage services.
- For foreign applicants who have no proxy in Mauritius, payment for postage fees are applicable. Please contact the relevant authority for fees details.
- Note:
- Where the document(s) requested by the applicant is/are to be apostilled, an additional fee of 3 Euros per document for citizens of Mauritius and 13 Euros per document for non-citizens should be added to the fee listed in the above table. For payments in Pound Sterling, the applicant should liaise with this office.
