- To apply for the freeport certificate, you should make your application online to the Economic Development Board (EDB) Mauritius through their online portal via this EDB Online Portal.
- On the website, scroll down to find the “MAURITIUS FREEPORT” heading and click on the hyperlink to open the freeport menu.
- Read the information provided and click on the “Go to portal” hyperlink to go to the freeport licensing system page.
- On this page, read the charges applicable for the freeport fees, and then under “Login”, if you are a registered user, enter your login name and password to access your account.
- If you are not a registered user, click on the hyperlink under “New user” i.e., “Click here to create account” to go to the registration page.
- Enter the required details accordingly and click on the “SUBMIT” button to send your registration application.
- The system will automatically register you and you will receive a pop-up notification with this information “Registered successfully. Kindly check your email for your login credentials.”
- Go to your email account and open the email from Economic Development Board to view your login credential.
- Then go to the freeport licensing system page and log in to your account using the registered credentials i.e., Login Name and Password.
- In your account under “FREEPORT CERTIFICATE” go to the sub-heading “To Submit your application, click on the category as below” and click on the “Apply for a Freeport Certificate” hyperlink to go to the new application form.
- Fill the application form accordingly and upload all the required supporting documents as instructed in the application form and then click on the “ Submit” button.
- Upon successful submission of the application, an email will be sent to your account with the application details. You can also view the application details in your online account.
- The application will be verified by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the EDB to check if the application is completed as required and if you have provided all the required documents. Note that the CEO may request you to provide more details and/ documents for the verification process if the CEO is not satisfied that your application is complete as required.
- Upon the verification process, if your application is deemed to be complete, the CEO will refer your application to the EDB board with recommendations, observations, and comments.
- The board will review your application and the observations from the CEO and the board may Reject your application, or refer back the application to the CEO, or Approve the application on terms and conditions that are appropriate for certification.
- If the application is either approved or rejected, the CEO will notify you through your contact details. Note that the notification period for a freeport operator engaged in manufacturing or processing activities, is within 30 days of the effective date of the application and for any other case, within 15 days of the effective date of the application.
- If the application is approved by the board, the CEO will issue the appropriate freeport certificate subjected to the terms and conditions issued by the board.
