Mauritius - Apply for Tourism Accommodation Certificate

Apply In Person

  1. To apply for a Tourism Accommodation Certificate, the applicant should make the application to the Mauritius Tourism Authority. Please view the Mauritius Tourism Authority contact details through this link Contact Information.
  2. Visit the Tourism Authority’s office to obtain the application form or download the application directly through this link Application for a Tourism Accommodation Certificate.
  3. Read and complete the application form accurately and then gather and prepare all the required supporting documents as per the specific activity as mentioned in the application checklist. Please download the checklist through this link Application Checklist.
  4. Then visit the Tourism Authority’s office and submit the complete application form along with all the required documents to the official at the service desk for verification.
  5. The officer will assess the application to confirm that the form is filled in as required and check if the applicant has provided all the required documentation for the application.
  6. Upon the verification and the application checks out as required, the applicant will be required to pay the non-refundable processing fees of MUR 5000 at the cashier's office and obtain the payment receipt.
  7. Upon the payment of the processing fee and if the application is accepted, the applicant will be issued with the acknowledgment receipt of the application. Note that the date of issue of the receipt will be the effective date for the processing of the application.
  8. Then the application will be forward to the responsible authority for processing.
  9. The authority will evaluate the application and if need be the authority will conduct an inspection on the applicant’s premises of operation through a Tourism Enforcement Officer (TEO) who will take prior appointment with the applicant regarding the inspection. Note that depending on the activity of the applicant’s business, clearances may be required from fire services, health authorities, and police.
  10. Once the inspection is complete, the Tourism Enforcement Officer (TEO) will submit the inspection report to the relevant authority at the Tourism Authority’s office.
  11. The Authority will then forward the application and the inspection report to the Licensing Committee (LC) of the Tourism Authority for approval.
  12. The LC will evaluate the application and the report and either decide to issue a letter for payment of the Letter of Intent (LOI), or issue a letter of approval for TEL, or deny the approval of the application.
  13. In the case where an LOI has been issued, the applicant should ensure that all conditions have been complied with during the relevant period. Once all conditions have been complied with, the applicant should inform the Tourism Authority in writing and a second site visit may be carried out and recommendations submitted to the Licensing Committee for further consideration.
  14. If the application is approved, the applicant will be required to pay the prescribed fees depending on the application in cash or by cheque (drawn in the name of the Tourism Authority) or by card at the Cash Office, Tourism Authority office.
  15. After the payment, the certificate will be issued to the applicant.


Apply Online

  1. To apply for a Tourism Accommodation Certificate online, the applicant should make the application through the Mauritius Tourism Authority portal via this link TA online portal
  2. You the applicant will be prompted to log in by entering your email address and password if you have an account and if you do not have an account, click on the “Register a New Account” option.
  3. Enter your email address, answer the math security question then click on the “Create New Account” button.
  4. Then a notification email for login, will be sent to the email account, click on the link in the email from the TA and you will be directed to the next page, click on the “Log in” button and enter your password, Time zone, Name, enter your password, then click on the “Save” button.
  5. Note After changing the password, you must now make an application in the system in less than 14 days, failing which the account will be deleted.
  6. You will then be required to create a profile, i.e. either for an individual (self) or an agent (on behalf of an applicant).
  7. Proceed and create an account using the following steps below.


Creating a profile as an individual/for self

  1. If you opt to file the applicant as an individual/ for self, select the “+ Click here to create Profile” button under the “For self” tab.
  2. Add Applicant/ licensee details page will be displayed, under Type of license or the certificated initially required drop box select “Tourism Accommodation Certificate (TAC)” and fill out all mandatory fields, upload the required documents as listed on the site then click on the “Save” save button.
  3. An applicant profile will be created by the system and the license application form will automatically be displayed on the screen
  4. Then the application particulars page will be displayed Under Type of license/certificate select “Tourism Accommodation certificate (TAC)” and Under Type of tourism Accommodation Transaction select “New”.
  5. Then under Type of Tourism Accommodation select the specific activity you wish to apply for i.e.(Domaine /guest house/hotel/Tourist Residence/others) and then click on the “Next page” button.
  6. Applicant Details Page, will be displayed, fill out all mandatory fields, upload all the required documents listed on the site then click on the “Next page” button.
  7. The final declaration page will be displayed, if you are certified that all the information you have given is accurate, please check the certify box, then click on the “Next page” button.
  8. On the next page, the payment page, select the mode of payment convenient to you either online or at the counter.
  9. If you select via online, click on the “Pay online” tab and processed to make the payment then click on the “submit” button.
  10. If you have opted for payment via the cash counter, an invoice will be generated and sent to the email address you had registered with, print it out, and visit the Tourism Authority (TA) office and make payment.
  11. Payment of the processing fees can be effected in cash/ by cheque (drawn in the name of the Tourism Authority) or by card at the TA Cash Office.
  12. Upon the payment for the processing fee and your application is accepted, you will be issued with the acknowledgment receipt of your application. Note that the date of issue of the receipt will be the effective date for the processing of the application.

Creating a profile as an agent.

  1. If you wish to file the applicant as an agent (on behalf of the applicant), select the “+ Click here to create Profile” button under the “an agent (on behalf of the applicant)” tab.
  2. Add licensing Agent page will be displayed, fill out all mandatory fields then click on the “Save” button.
  3. Then click on the “click here to create an Applicant Profile” button.
  4. The add Applicant/ licensee details page will be displayed, under Type of license or the certificated initially required drop box select “Tourism Accommodation Certificate (TAC)” fill out all mandatory fields, upload the required documents as listed on the site then click on the “Save” button.
  5. Once you have registered, proceed and complete applying for the TAC using the online platform.

Tourist Accommodation Certificate:

  • The Tourist Accommodation Certificate is an omnibus certificate combining such facilities and services as restaurant, beauty parlor, health and fitness, spa and wellness, boathouse, shops, boutiques, and bar, operated by a hotel, guesthouse, and tourist residence. Henceforth, four (4) types of Hotel Certificate, 3 types of Guesthouse/Tourist Residence Certificate, and (2) types of Domaine Certificate are issued as specified hereunder.
  • The Tourist Enterprise Licence which was issued by the Tourism Authority for hotel, guesthouse, and tourist residence has been replaced by a Tourist Accommodation Certificate, following an amendment brought to the Tourism Authority Act through the Finance and Miscellaneous Act 2015.
