Mauritius - Apply for Recognition of Prior Learning Certificate

Apply In Person

  1. To apply for the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Certificate, the applicant should make the application to the Mauritius Qualification Authority (MQA). Please view the MQA contact information through this link Contact details.
  2. Visit the MQA office to collect the application form for the RPL or download the form from the MQA website via this link Downloadable Forms (Please click on the word doc image next to “RPL Application Form” to download the form).
  3. Read and complete the application form accordingly and attach all the necessary required documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below to the completed form in a single file.
  4. Then go to the MQA office and pay the application fees at the cashier's office and obtain the payment receipt.
  5. Submit the application to the MQA official at the service desk and the official will verify the application and the payment receipt.
  6. The applicant will then be guided about the RPL process and then the MQA will assign the applicant a facilitator to help in the development of a portfolio.
  7. Prepare the portfolio with the help of the your facilitator and submit it to the MQA.
  8. The MQA will receive the portfolio and forward it to the awarding body i.e, the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD), Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE)], Funding organizations, etc. for assessment, and the applicant will be required to pay the assessment fee at the MQA cashier office.
  9. Then awarding body will assess the portfolio and submit the assessment results to the MQA.
  10. Then MQA will then inform the applicant of the assessment results and the applicant will be award the RPL certificate.

  • Any person having 3 years of experience in TVET e.g. Masonry, Tourism, Electrical, etc. in Mauritius can apply.

  • The processing fee is Rs 2,000.
  • The assessment fee is Rs4,310.

RPL monitoring

  • During the three months for the preparation of the portfolio candidates will be monitored monthly. Only upon a favorable monitoring report submitted by the facilitator to the MQA, the candidate may be enrolled for assessment.


Assessment method

  • A range of assessment methods is used by the awarding body/ies amongst which the portfolio assessment is key. A plethora of other methods such as challenge test, interview, skill demonstration may also be used.


Remedial

  • The RPL method makes provision for remedial actions in cases where there are skills and competency gaps to ensure the candidate completes the RPL process and earns the qualification.
