Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Name Reservation of Company, the applicant has to approach the Corporate and Business Registration Department in Mauritius. Contact link
  2. Choosing a business name is the first step for an applicant to start a business in Mauritius. The name should be unique and should not be similar to any existing business name in Mauritius.
  3. After the name is chosen, the applicant should obtain the application form from the Registrar of Companies or download the application form from this website link.
  4. Applicant will need to fill out the form with the applicant’s details.
  5. The applicant must attach all the required documents and they can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. Submit the completed form along with the applicable fees to the Registrar of Companies.
  7. A fee for this procedure is has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
  8. The Registrar of Companies will review the submitted form and approve/reject the name reservation request.
  9. If the name reservation request is approved, the Registrar of Companies will issue a certificate of name reservation.
  10. If the name reservation is rejected, the Registrar of Companies will provide an explanation as to why the name was rejected.
  11. The processing time for this procedure takes 4-5 weeks.


Apply Online

  1. Applicant must go to the website of the Registrar of Companies of Mauritius link
  2. The applicant must click on the “Name Reservation” link on the top right corner of the page.
  3. Applicant will be asked to provide his/her contact information.
  4. Applicant will need to fill out the form with the applicant’s details and click “Submit”.
  5. This involves submitting the application form with the related documents and the documents can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. Then the applicant will need be asked to provide the details of the proposed name for the applicant's company.
  7. After the applicant must fill out the form with the proposed name and click “Submit”.
  8. Once the applicant details are submitted, the Registrar of Companies of Mauritius will review their request and will inform to the applicant of the outcome.
  9. If the company name is approved, he/she will need to pay a fee to have the name reservation registered.
  10. A fee for this procedure is has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
  11. Once the fee is paid and the name reservation is registered, he/she will receive a certificate of name reservation.
  12. This certificate should be kept safe and is valid for a period of 6 months from the date of registration.
  13. Generally, it takes around 3 days to complete the incorporation process.

  • The Companies Act 2001 of Mauritius requires that all companies registered in Mauritius secure a company name prior to their registration. The company name reservation process can be started online or by filling in a name reservation form and submitting it to the Registrar of Companies.
  • Prior to the name reservation, the proposed name must be checked for availability by performing a name search with the Registrar of Companies. The search will reveal any company names that are identical or nearly identical to the proposed name.
  • The proposed name should also comply with the regulations of the Companies Act 2001. Prohibited words such as ‘bank’, ‘insurance’, and ‘university’ must not be used in the name.
  • Once the name search is complete and the name is approved, the name reservation form must be submitted to the Registrar of Companies. The application fee must also be paid. Upon approval, the Registrar will reserve the name for a period of three months.
  • After the three months period, the company must be registered in Mauritius or the reserved name will expire. The company name reservation process can be completed in a few days.
