Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Duty Concession for Disabled Person (Self) in person, the applicant has to approach the Mauritius Revenue Authority Contact link or Contact link
  2. The applicant must download the application form from this website link or the applicant can get the application form from the relevant authority.
  3. The applicant has to fill in the relevant application form, which can be found online or at the Mauritius Revenue Authority.
  4. The applicant must provide a valid medical certificate from a medical practitioner or specialist in Mauritius, which states the degree of disability.
  5. The applicant must present proof of identity, such as a valid National Identity Card, or a valid passport and they can be found under the “Required Document” section of this page.
  6. An official document from the Social Welfare Department confirming their disability status must be provided.
  7. The applicant has to submit the completed form, along with all supporting documents, to the Mauritius Revenue Authority.
  8. The Mauritius Revenue Authority will review the application and may require additional information as part of the review process.
  9. If the concession is granted, the applicant will receive a Duty Concession Certificate, which must be presented to the relevant authorities.
  10. The applicant must present the Certificate of Concession to the Customs Department when importing goods into Mauritius.
  11. The applicant must keep the Certificate of Concession up to date, as it may be revoked if it is not renewed within the stipulated period.
  12. Generally, the concession application can take up to six weeks to be processed. The processing time may be shorter or longer depending on the number of applications received and the complexity of the case.

  • A letter from the garage where the equipment shall be fitted (if applicable)
  • Copy of applicant’s valid Driving License for private motorcar (adapted car).
  • A quotation, brochure or literature from the local agent providing the specifications of the vehicle, which the applicant intends to purchase.
  • An identity card or passport of the disabled person.
  • A proof of residence in Mauritius.
  • Proof of income, if applicable.
  • A letter of request and recommendation from an authorized representative of a registered welfare organization.
  • A letter from the employer in case of the applicant being employed
  • Any other documents that may support the application, including a proof of the address of the applicant’s place of work, pay slip / pay receipt etc.

ValidityEdit

  • The Duty Concession for Disabled Persons has no validity period. It is a permanent exemption from the payment of import duty on items such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, crutches, Braille typewriters, and other equipment used by the disabled.

  • Visit the nearest Social Security Office in Mauritius.
  • Fill in the application form for duty concession for disabled persons and attach the required documents as specified in the form.
  • These documents include disability certificates issued by the Ministry of Social Security and National Solidarity along with any medical certificates issued by a doctor.
  • Submit the application form and required documents to the Social Security Office in Mauritius.
  • The Social Security Office will assess the application and determine their eligibility for duty concessions.
