Mauritius - Apply for Certificate of Naturalization for Investors

- To apply for the certificate of Naturalization as an investor, you should make your application to the Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, Prime Minister’s Office, Port Louis. Please view the PMO contact details in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below.
- Obtain the application form from the Prime Minister’s Office at this address: Level 2, Government Centre, Port Louis. Or you can download the form directly through this link Application form.
- Read the application and complete it accordingly. Note that the affidavit section should be completed in the presence of a Judge, or the Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court, or a District Magistrate.
- Then place an advertisement regarding your application in two daily newspapers as directed on page 4 of the application in step:2 above.
- Then prepare all the required supporting documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below and attach the documents to the application form in a single file.
- Visit the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and pay the certificate’s non-refundable application fee of Rs.2,000 at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt.
- Submit your application to the service section and you will be issued with the acknowledgment receipt of receiving the application.
- The application will then be assessed by the minister and the minister will decide to approve or reject it.
- If the application is rejected, you will be informed of the rejection in a written letter.
- If the application is approved, you will receive an approval letter informing you that your application is successfully approved by the minister.
- Upon the approval, the prescribed license fee of Rs 50,000 at the Cash Office of the Prime Minister's Office.
- Thereafter, the certificate will be processed and issued to you within one week.

Required DocumentsEdit
- A recent copy of the birth certificate.
- Marriage certificate of the applicant (if applicable).
- First five pages of applicant’s passport.
- Residence permit of the applicant in Mauritius.
- Certificate of character issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions (recent - 3 months).
- One issue copy of two daily newspapers, each containing (clearly marked) an advertisement for your intention to apply for the naturalization certificate.
- Any other document relevant to the application (e.g. documents relating to the professional background of the applicant, investment, economic activities, employment creation).
NOTE:
- Any change of name should be made executory in Mauritius
- The above-supporting documents should be submitted in original and two photocopies should accompany the application (clean and legible copies in A4 format)

EligibilityEdit
- A person who has invested a sum of not less than 500,000 US dollars in Mauritius and has resided in Mauritius for a continuous period of not less than 2 years preceding the date of his application is eligible to apply.
FeesEdit
- The application fee is Rs. 2000 payable upon submission of the application at the PMO cashier office. This fee is non-refundable.
- Once the application is approved, you should Rs. 50,000 payable at the PMO cashier office.
ValidityEdit
- The Certificate of Naturalization is valid forever and should be kept safely as no duplicate is issued in case of loss.

Processing TimeEdit
- The processing of the application will take twelve months and after obtaining the approval letter and paying the prescribed fee of Rs.50,000 you will be issued the certificate within one week.

InstructionsEdit
- The PMO will only accept complete and correct applications for processing.
- In case the application is rejected, the PMO will not give any reasons for the rejection of the application.
- Any person who has acquired citizenship by registration may be deprived of that citizenship if the registration has been obtained using fraud, false representation, or the concealment of any material fact.
- The minister will consider the following criteria on the applicant:
- He/she is of good character.
- He/she has adequate knowledge of the English language, or any other language currently in Mauritius, and the responsibilities of a citizen of Mauritius.
- He/she has resided in Mauritius for a continuous period of 12 months immediately preceding the date of his application.
- He/she has resided in Mauritius for aggregate periods amounting to not less than 5 years.
- He/she intends, in the event of a certificate being granted to him/her, to continue to reside in Mauritius.
- He/she should be of full age and full sound mind.
