Apply In Person
- To apply for a Certificate of Citizenship in Case of Doubt, you should make your application to the Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, Prime Minister’s Office, Port Louis (PMO). Please view the PMO contact details in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below.
- Write a formal letter requesting the certificate of citizenship and then gather and prepare all the required supporting documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below.
- Then attach all the documents to the application letter and visit the PMO office, at the office submit your application file at the service desk and pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs.2,000.
- Upon the payment, you will be issued with the application acknowledgment receipt and your application will be forwarded to the minister for assessment.
- Your application will be evaluated accordingly and if the application is accepted, you will be notified in writing.
- Upon receiving the approval letter, visit the PMO office and pay the prescribed fee of Rs 15,000 for the certificate at the Cash Office of the PMO.
- After the payment, the Certificate of Registration will be processed and issued to you within one week.
Note that if the application is not approved, you will be notified accordingly by way of a letter.

- Birth certificate of applicant’s parents (recent copies).
- Marriage certificate of applicant ‘s parent (recent copies).
- Valid identification document (Passport).
- Marriage certificate of the applicant.
- Certificate of foreign nationality of applicant (if applicable).
- Certificate of foreign nationality of applicant’s parents (if applicable).
- Evidence of applicant’s residence permit abroad (if applicable).
- Evidence of applicant’s parents’ residence permit abroad (if applicable).
- Photocopy of first five pages of applicant’s passport.

- Mauritius citizens whose citizenship is being doubted can apply
FeesEdit
- The application fee is Rs. 2000 payable upon submission of the application at the PMO cashier office. This fee is non-refundable.
- Once the application is approved, you should Rs. 15,000 payables at the PMO cashier office.
ValidityEdit
- Certificate of Citizenship is valid forever and should be kept safely as no duplicate is issued in case of loss.

- The processing of the application will take twelve months and after obtaining the approval letter and paying the prescribed fee of Rs.15,000 you will be issued the certificate within one week.

- In case the application is rejected, the PMO will not give any reasons for the rejection of the application.

- Full names of the applicant.
- Other nationality (if applicable).
- Place/date of birth.
- Age/gender.
- Parent’s nationality.
- Parent's place of birth.
- Current residential address.
- State your mode of citizenship (birth/adoption/naturalization/marriage).
- Residential address in Mauritius.
- Declaration.
