Procedure

Apply In Person

1. To apply for a License for a Local Vessel or Boat, the applicant should make the application to the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries, and Shipping. Please view the Ministry’s contact information through this link Contact Details.
2. Visit the ministry,s office to obtain the application form or download the form from the ministry’s website through this link: Application Forms (Please scroll down to find “Application for a fishing license (local boat or vessel)” under Application Forms.
3. The form can also be downloaded directly through this link Application form
4. Read and complete the application form accordingly and then obtain all the required supporting documents as mentioned in the application form or as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below.
5. Attach the required supporting documents to the application form in a single file and visit the ministry’s office to submit the license application.
6. At the office go to the Fisheries Planning and Licensing Division and submit the application to the serving officer at the licensing unit.
7. The official will verify the application and check if the form is complete correctly and all the required supporting documents are provided.
8. If the application is correct, proceed and pay the application fee at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt.
9. The application will then be forwarded to the minister’s office for assessment.
10. The permanent secretary will evaluate the application and if the application meets the required merits, the application will be approved for licensing.
11. The applicant will then be notified of the approval through his/her contact details and requested to pay the prescribed licensing fee.
12. Upon payment of the required licensing fee, the applicant will be issued with the fishing license within seven working days from the date of the payment.

Eligibility

• Individuals and companies who own local Mauritius fishing vessels are eligible to apply.

Fees

• For a Mauritian purse seiner US $ 30,000 per annum. US $ 7,500 for 90 days and the US $ 2,500 for any additional period of 30 days or part thereof.
• For a Mauritian long liner Rs 1,000 per annum.
• For a Mauritian hand liner Rs 1,000 per annum
• VMS fee the US $ 3,600 per annum. US $ 900 for 90 days and the US $ 300 for any additional period of 30 days or part thereof.
• Refundable logbook fee US $ 1,000.

Validity

• The license is valid for the period indicated on it but its valid can not exceed one year.

Processing Time

Instructions

• Owner of any Mauritian fishing boat or Mauritian fishing vessel shall, before starting to fish in the fishing zone of a foreign State, notify in writing the Permanent Secretary of that fact.
• The master or owner of any licensed fishing boat or fishing vessel shall keep a fishing logbook in such form as may be approved in writing by the Permanent Secretary.
• The master or owner of any fishing boat or fishing vessel shall submit to the Permanent Secretary the fishing logbook, and any other catch data, that may be required within the time specified in any fishing agreement or on the conditions of the license issued in respect of the fishing boat or fishing vessel, as the case may be.

Need for the Document

• Any persons/company that wishes to use a Mauritian fishing boat or Mauritian fishing vessel for fishing on the high seas are required to obtain a fishing license for advanced coastal fishery from the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources.
