Procedure

Apply In Person:

1. An application for renewal of a License to Practice Nursing (Midwife) should be submitted to the Nursing Council of Mauritius registry office, at least fourteen days before the expiration date of the current license if desired to continue practice as a Health protection Council Contact Details
2. The licensee should collect all relevant application forms to be completed for renewing the License to Practice Nursing with respect to the requirement from the relevant department.
3. Carefully complete the forms with appropriate information under relevant sections then attest the forms with your signature once completed, attach all the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section below, before submitting the complete dossier for verification and processing.
4. Don’t forget to make the stipulated payment as directed by the officials, and proof of payment should also be attached to the application.
5. Upon receipt of the application, the registrar will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified and corrected.
6. After the successful screening of the submitted documents, Where the registry office is satisfied that the applicant has complied with all the requirements as may be applicable; and has continued demonstrating a capacity to meet the obligations and compliance requirements as stipulated by the Council, it shall, within seven days of receiving the complete application, approve the application.
7. The applicant will be notified to collect his/her Practicing license via text or phone call. One is required to bring proof of identification and surrender the expired license before being issued the renewed license.

• Completed Licensing renewal application form.
• Two (2) recent identical colored passport photographs with white backgrounds.
• Expired license.
• Identity card
• Photocopies of certificates of registration.
• Photocopy of certificate of attendance for Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP).
• Original evidence of Payment of all applicable fees.
• Any other additional supporting documentation as requested by the Authority.

Eligibility

• The individual should be registered with the Council and a holder of a practicing license.
• To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
• To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short,  not to have a criminal record.

• Please consult with the Nursing Council of Mauritius Office.

Validity

• The practicing license expiry date is after every 1 year and shall be subjected to renewal and payment of an annual practice fee as may be prescribed by the Council, this should be submitted on time before the lapse of the current license, to allow enough time for the renewal due process to be completed.

Need for the Document

• No Nurse shall be allowed to practice or continue to practice in any year except such a Nurse has paid an annual Licensing fee as prescribed by the Nursing Council of Mauritius.
• It is illegal to employ a Nurse or Midwife not registered with Council or who does not have a valid practicing license.
