Malta - Renew a Minor Passport
ProcedureEdit
- To renew a minor passport, obtain the relevant application form from any of these: the Passport Office, the Police Stations, Local councils or Travel Agencies.
- Fill in and complete the application form.
- Both parents must sign Section 7, as well as the recommender.
- The recommender (sponsor) must witness the signature of the parents, sign Section 8 of the application form and the photo of your child.
- Submit the application form along with your child's current passport to the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Security (MHAS).
- Bring two identical colored photographs taken on a white background (one of which must be signed by the recommender) and the Identity Card of both parents. If your child is 6 years or more, you must also bring your child with you at the Passport Office to have his or her photograph (biometric facial image) in our office. You should bring photos back signed by the recommender as evidence of the child's true identity. Those over 12 years should also appear with the parents for photo and fingerprints capturing.
- Pay the passport application fee.
- Collect your child's passport after four (4) working days. Bring your ID card.

FeesEdit
Passport Renewal Application Fees:
- For ages 16 or more - 70
- For ages between 10 and 15 years - 35
- For ages below 10 years - 14
ValidityEdit
- The passport of minors between 16 and 18 years is valid for 10 years.
- The passport of minors between 10 and 15 years is valid for 5 years.
- The passport of minors under 10 years is valid for 2 years.

Processing TimeEdit
The normal processing time for a minor passport is 4 working days. But there may be cases where the passport of a minor cannot be issued for four days. This may be due to various constraints such as Care Orders, Court warrants, restriction of parental consent or other special provisions that may be included in Separation Agreements reached between the parents.

Need for the DocumentEdit
Every passport has its expiration date and it must be renewed to remain valid for use.
A minor's passport will expire after two years if the child is under 10 years, and every 5 years if age is between 10 and 15 years. If the child is over 16 years, the passport will expire after valid 10 years.
