Malta - Renew Your License to Practice Nursing (Midwife)

Apply online: Step 1: Log in or Register with the Nursing & Midwives Council Portal
- Only applications with the status APPROVED/REGISTERED can be renewed their nursing practicing license via the Nursing & Midwives Council of Malta hover the cursor over the “Renew Registration” Hyperlink link. This status appears depending on settings on ‘Manage Profession Special Parts’ (Admin part) and on Expiry Date.
- This will prompt the system to show the page with Login buttons for Maltese and Non-Maltese applicants.
- Registered Maltese applicants should click on “Log with EID Authentication” and log on to their e-account with their (Email and password), those with an e-ID account, kindly contact the NMCM office during office hours on 2590 4300; for registration assistance.
- Registered Non-Maltese applicants should click on “Log with Custom Authentication” and log in, those without an account should click on the “Sign Up” hyperlink, once on the registration page, the applicant will be required to complete the ‘Personal and Contact Details’ before clicking on the “Register” tab.
- Under “Main Occupation” the applicant should select “Midwife” or “Nurse” but there is also a checkbox “Other” which enables the Applicant to type in free text.
- Since the Applicant is registered for the first time, he/she will need to confirm the validity of the email address provided, by entering the Applicant code received by email.
- Applicant can copy/paste code and click on the “Proceed” button. This will open the page “Change Password” where the Applicant can set up a password. The same password needs to be entered in both fields, then click on the “Set Password” tab.
Step 2: Renewal Registration Process
- After the as successful registration process, log on to the portal, Licensing history will be displayed, click on the “Loading” icon, and located next to the license to be renewed.
- This will prompt the “License Renewal” Application page to be displayed, upload all the supporting documentation as listed on the site, then click on the “Continue with Renewal” tab.
- To upload the document, the Applicant needs to click on the “Choose File” button (the name of the button depends on the browser). This will prompt the system to show the pop-up “Open” where the Applicant can find and select a file to upload.
- No next page applicant will be required to complete all mandatory sections and entry their personal and workplace details of Applicant opens, where he/she can add/edit details like Mailing Address, Phone Number, Work Places, etc. before clicking on the “Continue” button for the status of the application becomes APPROVED / REGISTERED (AWAITING RENEWAL APPROVAL) by the portal.
- After the request is being approved by Admin, one application with the status RENEWED and one with the status APPROVED/REGISTERED appears.
Please Note: Non-EU trained nurses can only apply for permanent registration after having been registered as a nurse and successfully practiced the nursing/midwifery profession in Malta for a continuous period of at least 4 years after the first registration is approved.
The appeal of the Decision
- In cases of dispute between the Council / Committee and the applicant; a person may file an appeal with the Appeals Committee within 20 calendar days from the date of the correspondence received from the Council for Nurses and Midwives.
