Learner's permit application:

  • a medical fitness test, as specified on the appropriate form (DRV 01 or DRV 02);
  • Application endorsed by the licenced or non-licenced Driving Instructor;
  • recent photograph;
  • a copy of the ID card.

Theory test application

  • valid learner's permit
  • present ID

Practical test application

  • valid learner's permit
  • A passed Theory Test Certificate (on first application);
  • A completed Student Record Sheet(if applying thru Motoring School on first application)
  • DRV 20 form

EligibilityEdit

  • The minimum age to drive in Malta is 18 however other minimum ages requirements are applicable to different license categories.
  • Minimum Age Requirements for Standard Licenses:
    • AM - 18 years
    • A1 - 18 years
    • A2 - 20 years
    • A - Either 22 years and at least two years experience with Category A2
    • B1 - 18 years
    • B - 18 years
    • BE - 18 years

InstructionsEdit

  • You can obtain a driving instructor through a Licenced Motoring School,or a non-licenced Driving Instructor.
  • A non-licenced Driving Instructor must:
    • Be at least 25 years old
    • Be in possession of a valid driving licence, covering the category being instructed for at least five years;
  • Licensed Motoring Schools are required to use the Student Record Sheet applicable to the particular category,this to ensure training is provided in a structured manner. This is kept by you during training and gives an indication of those lessons which have been covered, the lessons taught and the various stages of progress. The choice of lesson sequence is at the instructors discretion depending on your progress and ability. However, all lessons indicated on the Student Record Sheet must have been taught before an application is submitted.
  • To book an appointment, candidates may call the Theory Test Centre on 2122 7190 or 2722 7190, or visit the Theory Test Centre located at Gwardamangia Hill, Gwardamangia. An appointment will be given immediately.

One requires a valid driving license or learners permit issued by Transport Malta to be able to drive in Malta.
