ProcedureEdit

  1. Obtain the Application Form A from any of these: the Passport Office, the Police Stations, Local councils or Travel Agencies.

  2. Fill in and complete the application form.
  3. Have a sponsor or recommender. This person must be a professional person (or priest) who has known you for at least two years ago.
  4. Your sponsor or recommender must complete the relevant part of the application form.
  5. Submit the application form to the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Security (MHAS).
  6. Bring an ID Card to prove your identity.
  7. Have your photo (biometric facial image) and fingerprints taken.
  8. Pay the passport application fee.
  9. Collect your passport after four (4) working days. Bring your ID card.

Note:
If the application form is not completed properly, you will be contacted and the application process may be longer.

Processing TimeEdit

The normal processing time for an adult passport is 4 working days. Passport that is processed urgently can be collected after four hours.

The Adult Maltese Passport is issued to Maltese citizens over 18 years old. It is a European Union passport that is issued to citizens of the Maltese Islands for travel outside the European Union and European Economic Area.



Information which might helpEdit

Same day service is offered at a price of 120, irrespective of the age of the applicant. You need to call the MHAS Office and bring your completed application form as indicated above. If all relevant information is correct, your request will be processed for four hours. If you call before 10:00 am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, you can collect your urgent passport same day. If prior to Wednesday 14.00, you can also collect your passport the same day. This applies only if the passport is lost or stolen or if the passport was previously issued for a limited period of time. On the other hours of the office and on Saturdays, urgent passport is issued after the next working day.
