ProcedureEdit

All members of the public are encouraged to report to the police any crime or incident. If you have been the victim of crime, have witnessed a crime or would simply like to tell police that a crime has been committed, there are several ways to do it by

  • Emergency number Dial 17(for police), Dial 15 (for Ambulance) Dial 17 (for fire brigade)
  • Contact the nearest police station in person or police officer on patrol.
  • Dial the landline for your local police station.
  • Post the crime or incident on the police social medial page.

Note: emergency number can be used to report crime anonymously at your request, and your identity will not be disclosed.

Apply In-Person

  1. Get all the particulars of the crime incident including: time, nature, whether there is loss of life or property involved, witnesses, and clues that could help the police identify the criminals.
  2. Proceed to call the police/ ambulance/fire brigade through their emergency numbers so that they may report at the scene of the crime or incident.
  3. If the crime/incident does not require a very urgent attention, you may visit the nearest police station to make the report (record a statement), the officer will then record the accounts of the crime/incident. If your case is very urgent/complicated if may be forwarded to the Head of Officer in Charge of Station for assessment, upon which you will be issued with a reference case number.
  4. A crime/incident in which a personal injury has been sustained you will be issued with a medical assessment form, which is issued free of charge at any police station and should be filled by the police who receive the crime report and a medical examiner.
  5. If in any case there is loss of property then police will issue an abstract with particulars of the lost property and in the case of a road accident an accident abstract will be issued
  6. Police officers will then be dispatched to the site to investigate the situation immediately and write a report findings and then decide whether they should arrest, summon or issue a warrant of arrest to the perpetrator/accused person, the case will then be forwarded to the law court to be settled.
