Mali - Apply for a Certificate of Nationality

Within Mali
- Applicants should visit the criminal records and nationality certificate office of a civil court near you and express your interest to the official in charge.
- Collect necessary forms and accurately fill them;
- Make all necessary payments at the cashier desk, upon which you will be issued with an acknowledgment slip.
- Attach all the required documents (listed below); and
- Submit the documents to be verified and processed
- The officer in charge will then proceeds to recording the information obtain from your application file and forward the file to the chief clerk to be verified and processed.
- The Chief Registrar performs the verification and registration and if he/she is satisfied that the file is in order, your application will be approved and submits the certificate for signature to the President of the Tribunal or the Justice of the Peace with Extended Jurisdiction.
- The Certificate is finally returned to the National Certificate office within one working day, visit the office with your identification document and acknowledgment slip and claim the certificate.
Abroad Application
- The applicant should visit the Mali embassy/consulate in their foreign host country with the supporting documents and express their interest at service desk.
- Please note that some embassy required the applicant to book an appointment with them first before visiting the embassy.
- Collect the application form from the embassy office or download it via the embassy website if available.
- Submit the completed form and pay the required processing fee, Note: that the processing fee varies with embassies.
- You will be notified of the outcome by the embassy by phone/ mail, revisit the embassy office with your identification document and collect the certificate.
Please Note
Applicants who want their processed Certificate of nationality sent to them by post are advised to attach one of the following to their request(s):
- A registered self-addressed envelope with the appropriate stamps (letter recommendée);
- A pre-paid envelope from any recognized courier service provider.
- Please note Not all embassies offer the post/mail return service (please consult with the embassy)
- In countries that do not have a Mali diplomatic mission, applicants can file the application via a representative on his/her behalf (Applicant)as long as the representative has an authorization letter (simple power of attorney)
- NOTE: You can file your application and book an appointment through online in some embassies, please confirm with the Mali embassy of the country hosting you, if they offer this service, since not all embassies offer these service.

- Copy of the extract of Malian birth certificate
- National Identity card /valid Malian passport.
- Any other document requested for by the civil court
Required document for Abroad Application
For an original Malian:
- A request addressed to the Ambassador
- copy of the Malian Birth Certificate
- Copy of Malian Passport or Malian Identity Card or NINA Card
- application fees (Money Order, certified check or cash)
- Any other document requested for by the embassy.
For a husband or wife by marriage
- A request addressed to the Ambassador
- copy of the Birth Certificate
- copy of the Passport
- Consular Identity Card
- A Marriage Certificate of both spouses
- Application fees (Money Order, Certified Check or Cash)
- Any other document requested for by the embassy.

Upon lodging your application, the processing period is within one working day in Mali and an average processing time for abroad applications is 10 working days.
