Procedure

Apply In Person

1. To Import Used Vehicle (Car, Motorbike, etc), the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation link
2. The applicant has to visit the office with the request letter.
3. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
4. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
5. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
7. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
10. Then the application will be processed further.
11. The Maldives Transport Authority may conduct a technical inspection of the imported vehicle to ensure it meets the safety and environmental standards set by the country.
12. Comply with any requirements or modifications necessary to meet the regulations.
13. This entire process can be completed within 2 – 3 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Eligibility

The following are eligible to import used vehicles (car, motorbike, etc.) in the Maldives:

• Maldivian citizens: Maldivian citizens are allowed to import one used vehicle every five years.
• Foreigners: Foreigners are allowed to import one used vehicle every two years, if they have a valid residence permit in the Maldives.

Fees

• The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
