Malaysia - Convert or Exchange Foreign Driver License

Below procedure which is explained is more generic for all driver license. Following pdf document explains information in more detail, if you required so : More detailed exchange or conversion process

  1. Driver license from the countries that are listed under the heading Instructions of this page can be converted to Malasyian driver license.
  2. The applicant should approach the nearest Road Transport Office (RTD) which can be found out from the following link : Office Locations
  3. Following is the application form that should be submitted along with the document : Completed Application Form JPJ L1
  4. Before approaching RTD office, Please make sure you have all the required documents that are listed under Required Documents section of this page.
  5. The authorities in the RTD office has to provide an approval for exchanging or converting your driver license, only after the approval your driver license will be exchanged or converted to Malaysian driver license.

Note : A completed submission does not guarantee approval.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • MyKad or Passport.
  • Visa Valid for no less than 3 months.
  • Valid foreign driving license.
  • Translation letter for driving license (if the foreign driving license is not in English).
  • Endorsement from embassy of country of origin or endorsement from the licensing authority. (Embassy means the embassy of the license' country of origin located in Malaysia, or other country nearest to Malaysia).
  • Colour photo (25mm35mm).
  • Completed Application Form JPJ L1
  • Additional documents if required.

Note : All original documents and copies (one each) must be submitted together with application.
