This application is intended for verification of marital status of non-Muslims Malaysian citizen who wish to marry abroad. Applications can be submitted only at the Nation Registration Department (NRD) headquarters in Putrajaya or by post.


Apply in person:

  1. First step is to obtain statutory declaration or swear your Oath at the Istana Kehakiman (Palace of Justice).You will need to pay RM4 for this service.
  2. When you have obtained your oath, go to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) at the NRD office 1 st floor to apply for your Single Status certificate. Take the queue number for application and wait for you turn.in the meantime you can request for the application and fill it.
  3. When it is your turn, present the filled form with all the required documents and pay the fee of RM5. The officer will verify the documents and your name will be called again for you to pick your certificate. The processing time should be about 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Get the certificate endorsed by Wisma Putra (Ministry of Foreign Affair).Go to Wisma putra, it's on the right side of the entrance and just ask the officer at the counter to give you a number and go straight to their counter to give your certificate and pay a fee of RM10 to get your certificate endorsed.

  • Form JPN.KC09 must be fully completed, particularly the ID number, names of spouses, date and place of marriage.
  • MyKad (photocopy of MyKad if application is by post).
  • Photocopy of passport pages with personal details of prospective spouse who is a non-citizen.
  • Application letter stating the purpose of the application.(ORIGINAL)
  • Statutory declaration stating the applicant’s current marital status. If the applicant is outside the country, then the declaration needs to be made before a Malaysian representative in that country.(ORIGINAL)
  • The applicant must issue the power of attorney to delegate the lawyer or mother or father or their children or sibling (brother or sister) to oversee the application, if applicable.(ORIGINAL)
  • Application letter from the lawyer with power of attorney, if application is made through the lawyer.(ORIGINAL)

Under normal circumstances, the letter verifying marital status issued by the National Registration Department headquarters in Putrajaya must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) in Putrajaya, Kuching or Kota Kinabalu before it can be used overseas. However, please contact the nearest foreign representative for foreign documentation requirements.
