Apply In Person:

  1. To Export Live Animals, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  9. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  10. Also, the applicant will need to arrange for transportation that meets the standards for the safe and humane transport of animals. This may involve working with a licensed animal transport company.
  11. This certificate confirms that the animals are healthy and free from diseases that could pose a risk to other animals or humans.
  12. Once the applicant has obtained the necessary permits and met all the requirements, the applicant can proceed with exporting the live animals.
  13. This entire process can be completed within 15 - 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

  • Export permit from the Malawi Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Water Development.
  • Permit from the Malawi Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development.
  • Permit from the Malawi Department of National Parks and Wildlife (if exporting wildlife).
  • Certificate of health from a veterinarian.
  • Invoice or pro forma invoice for the animals.
  • Packing list detailing the number, type, and weight of the animals being exported.
  • Airway bill or bill of lading.
  • Insurance certificate (if required by the importer).
  • Import permit from the destination country (if required).
  • Other documents that may be required by the destination country, such as certificates of origin, quarantine certificates, or phytosanitary certificates.
