Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. The applicant should download or collect an application form from the nearest Malawian embassy. Contact link
2. The application form can be download from the given link: Application form
3. Then, the applicant has to pay the Visa application fees as mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
4. The applicant has to collects all the documents mentioned below in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. After that, book an appointment at the Embassy.
6.  The applicant now has to bring documents and a Visa fee receipt on the date of appointment.
7.  If satisfied, then the officials at the embassy or consulate will issue a Malawian Tourist Visa.
8. It can take anywhere between 3 to 7 working days to process the Tourist Visa.

Required Documents

• Copies of filled in Visa application forms.
• Two Visa Application Forms
• Two recent Passport-size photos.
• Fees can be paid by money order, bank-certified check, or cash (the embassy will not accept personal checks as a form of payment).
• Onward ticket.
• Valid passport (at least six months before expiry date with enough unused pages).
• Copy of a letter from the applicant’s organization or invitation letter.
• Copy of sponsor’s residential status in Malawi (i.e. Permit or Malawi Passport if Malawian).
• Return prepaid envelope addressed to the applicant.
• Copy of a verified round ticket.
• Certificates that prove that the applicant has got enough money for accommodation in Malawi.
• Insurance certificate from any insurance company.
• An invitation letter from a person leaving in Malawi or a cover letter.
• Yellow fever vaccination certificate.

Eligibility

• Foreigners who visit Malawi for Tourism purposes.
• Foreigners visiting their relatives and/or friends in Malawi.
• Foreign scientists, professors, or researchers attending cultural, technological, or scientific conferences, seminars, or meetings in Malawi.
  

Fees

• ValidityAmount 3 months single entry from date of issue is the US $100.00.
• Six months multiple entries from the date of issue are US $220.00.
• One year multiple entries from the date of issue are US $300.00.
  

Validity

• A Malawian single entry tourist visa is valid for 3months.
• A multiple entry Visa is valid for not more than 12 months.

Instructions

•  According to Malawi immigration requirements, foreigners from most countries require a visa to gain entry into Malawi.
•  The Malawian Visa should be obtained from a foreign country of origin at a Malawian consulate.
•  An on-arrival visa for Malawi is given at a port of entry.
•  Permit to enter remains the right of the immigration officials in Malawi.
•  Applicants can apply in person at a Malawi foreign mission or through a sponsor in Malawi.
• Application and all required documents must be sent in DUPLICATE to the consular section at the embassy.
• In most cases, applications will be processed within 5 working days. However, for nationals of India, Nigeria, Bangladesh, China, Burundi, Rwanda, and Pakistan, applications may take up to 4 weeks.
• Drop-off time: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays.
