Apply By Mail
- Initiate the process by requesting your supplier to send a sample of the product you want to import to the Malawi Bureau of Standard (MBS)
- You supplier will send the sample to the MBS attaching both his/hers and your contacts
- Once the MBS receive the sample, they will inspect it to determine the processing fee and will contact you to pay fees for conformity assessment of the sample
- Pay the prescribe conformity bill of assessment and forward prove of payment to the MBS office. Note: If you are unable to pay the bill, the MBS will hold the Sample for 14 days waiting period and then will dispose them.
- Upon payment the conformity assessment will be conducted on the sample and the MBS will prepare a report of the results
- The MBS will send you the conformity assessment result of the sample, and if the commodity passes, you will be authorised to processed with the importation, if not the importation will be rejected.

- The commodity you intend to import is assessed on compliance with Malawi standards before the actual importation in order to avoid rejecting the whole consignment upon arrival. This applies where the commodity is being imported for the first time and when the MBS demands for a per-shipment continued or excessive failure of previous consignments of the same commodity to meet the applicable standards
