Malawi - Apply for Permit (License) to Import Pesticides

Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. Visit the Ministry of Agriculture office and make your way to the Pesticide Control Board (PBC)
2. At the reception, request for the pesticide check list and the confirm if the pesticide you are importing is registered
3. Upon confirmation of registration, obtain the relevant application form from the PBC assisting official
4. Fill the application form correctly, pay the required fee and submit it to the PCB official with all the required documents attached
5. The official will review your application and forward it for processing
6. The PBC will assign an inspector to conduct a physical assessment of the consignment, and you will be notified of the inspection date
7. The inspector will examine the consignment accordingly and if the consignment fills the inspection, it be detained or returned to the country of origin at your expense as the importer
8. And if the consignment meets the required standards according to inspection, the inspector will file a report of the results and recommends issuing of the permit
9. The BPC will complete processing your application and issue you the import permit valid for six months

• Bill of lading/cargo manifest for sea and land cargo or air way bill for air cargo
• Shippers’ or freight invoice
• Certificate of origin (to benefit from preferential trade treatment)
