Malawi - Apply for Permit (License) to Import Meat

Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. Gather and prepare all the required documents for your application
2. Then write a request letter clearly specifying the intent for import of the meat and address it to the Director of Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development (DHALD)
3. Visit the DHALD office to submit your complete application for verification by DHALD official
4. If the application is correct, proceed and pay the prescribed application fees
5. The Director of the DHALD will order a per-inspection about the product knowledge
6. The inspector will conduct the inspection and file a report of the finding to the director
7. Then the DHALD office will do a background check verifying whether there is an outbreak of diseases in the country of export
8. Once everything checks out the permit will be processed and issued to you.

• Declaration of value
• Bill of lading/cargo manifest for sea and land cargo or air way bill for air cargo
• Shippers’ or freight invoice
• Certificate of origin (to benefit from preferential trade treatment)
