Procedure

Apply Via Mail

1. The applicant has to write a formal application letter asking the Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board of Malawi, requesting exemption Contact Link
2. Attach a prescription to support the product, if it is not registered in Malawi.

   Note: The prescription must cover the details of the name and quantity of the product.

3. Pay the application fee and get the receipt.
4. Mail the completed application to the board [email protected], including the application fee receipt, through the contacts provided in “Office Location and Contacts” section of this page.
5. After that, the board will check the application and upon satisfactory results, it will approve the application.
6. Then a license exemption certificate will be processed and issued within two to three days.

Any person for administration to himself / to persons who are members of their household or a Medical practitioner can apply.

Please contact the relevant authority for fees and bank details.

• This procedure is required for the importation of medicinal products by any person for administration to himself or to any persons who are members of their household, or where the medicinal product is specially imported by the order of a medical practitioner for administration to his patient.
• This document proves that the license owners are exempted from the medical import license of a specific product and quantity.
