Procedure

This procedure provides you information related to upgrading or adding a new class to your driver license in Maharashtra. Following listed are the ways through which it can be done.

Apply Online - Maharashtra Upgrade your driver license online with Images

1. In order to apply for online, please follow the link : online portal
2. Please select "Online Services" from the menu and click on "Driver License Related Services".
3. You will be taken to a new screen where you have to select “Maharashtra” in the drop down menu against “Please select the State from where the service is to be taken”.
4. Under “Apply Online”, please select “Services on Driving License” and follow the instructions.

Apply In-Person

• To Upgrade or Add Additional Class to your Driver License in Maharashtra the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : Regional Office Locations, Transport Commissioners Office Locations
• Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
• Following application forms are required Form 4 (Driver License), Form 8 (Additional Class) and Form 1A (Medical Certificate). Application forms can be obtained from the following link : English Application Forms, Marathi Application Forms

1. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for driver license by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
2. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
3. Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
4. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
5. For a Driver License you will be requested to bring your own vehicle where you will be tested for your driving skills.
6. If the testing authority is satisfied with your driving skills the appropriate additional class on your driving license will be provided.

• Driving School Certificate (in case of commercial vehicle license )
• Original previous License in possession of applicant.

Validity

License to drive a Non-Transport Vehicle is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until the holder attains the age of 50 years, whichever is earlier. After that, the License is renewed every 5 years.

Transport Vehicle License is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue or renewal.

• Particulars and date of every conviction which has been ordered to be endorsed on any license held by the applicant

Need for the Document

A driver's license is a legal document issued by the state. It expresses a persons capability to operate a motorized vehicle, such as a motorcycle, car, truck or a bus, on a public roadway.

As per Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a valid Driving License is necessary to drive any motor vehicle on public roads.
