Maharashtra - Obtain License (Permit) for Trekking or Camping

ProcedureEdit
No person shall undertake trekking or camping without obtaining permission from the competent authority.
Apply In-Person:
- Every group intending to undertake trekking shall apply for permission to the competent authority.
- The competent authority can be District Forest Officer / Divisional Forest Officer / Wildlife warden / Deputy director of the respective forest or wildlife area as appropriate.

- Consult with the designated authority about the applying procedure for this permission. Collect the application form or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
- This application shall be submitted by the team leader.
- Complete the application form. Attach the entire required document as per our “Required Documents” section and submit it to the designated receiving authority.
- After receiving the application, authorities will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place the application will be accepted.
- This application will be processed internally. Authorities will check the requested date and the route intended for trekking is permissible, If permissible and the requirement of other rules are met the issuing authority will announce the fees to be paid.
- The fees need to be paid as applicable and obtain the receipt for paying the fees.
- The permission will be granted by the issuing authority. This permission can be collected in person or delivered as per applicable norms.
- Authorities will make entries about this application in the manual record or electronically using computer about the grant of permission.
- Note :
- Applicant will be informed of the probable date of collecting the permission if the granting permission takes time.
- Overnight stay shall not be permitted in open forest in any circumstance.
- The competent authority shall have full discretion to decide whether to permit the trek, depending upon the local condition.
- In some cases the applicant has to get clearance from the local municipality as stated by the granting authority.
- Applicant will be informed of the probable date of collecting the permission if the granting permission takes time.

- Note:
- In some states Inner Line Permit (ILP) is mandatory for the trekking destination.
- Apart from the above documents authorities may ask for additional information or documents. Please provide them for processing.

EligibilityEdit
- Aged from 10 years all the way to 75 years persons can apply (The age limit can vary based on few destinations as per the norms)
- In case of foreign individual applying then valid visa sufficient to cover trekking days is eligible to apply.
- Pregnant woman shall not be allowed to go on trek.
- Medical fitness criteria are applicable.

- The grant of permission shall be completed within 1-4 days irrespective of the state from the receipt of the application.

- There shall be ban on trekking during the specific period as per the department norms.
- Do not submit fake documents as a proof to obtain this permission.
- Incomplete application will be rejected.
- Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- Trespassing forest or restricted reserve forest areas itself is a punishable offence. Henceforth, if you want to trek then this permission has to be sought from the concerned authority.
- Forest department rarely allow public to trek within forests considering Wild Life security and its lifestyle. So, those who plan to trek should apply for the trekking or camping permission.

- There shall be one guide for every five members of the group.
- Ensure that none of the members in the group indulges in any prohibited activity.
- During trekking nobody shall litter or throw plastic or any non-biodegradable material.
- During trekking nobody shall cause pollution of water bodies, environmental pollution or noise pollution.
