Maharashtra - Get Information on Proclaimed Offenders

Whenever there is a declaration of a proclaimed offender, the respective police station of the concerned district where the offender resides will have the update about the offender.

Apply In-Person:

  1. Any individual (applicant), who is in need to verify another individual’s antecedents for proclaimed offender, shall approach the respective police station where the applicant resides.
  2. Contact link please select the applicant’s district from the dropdown list provided under “District/Police Commissionerates” for respective district portal. Here, use the “Contact Us” menu for the contact details.
  3. Please visit the respective office.
  4. Meet the respective authority at the office and collect the application (verification) form (if any) from the concerned authority or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
  5. Once the complaint is ready, please attach the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit it to the designated receiving authority.
  6. After receiving the application, the authorities will check the application details and documents. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  7. Authorities will make entries about this application in the manual record or electronically using the computer.
  8. The application will be processed further. The ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the complainant’s mobile or complainant gets a call from the police station about the application status.
  9. The application will be forwarded to the respective police station to get information on proclaimed offenders.
  10. The respective police station will process the request internally to generate the report.
  11. Once the processing is over, the report will be endorsed by the respective authority with his/her seal and forwarded to the respective police station where the complainant filled the application.
  12. The status will be conveyed to the complainant through an SMS or through phone call.
  13. The complainant shall visit the concerned police station to get the report.
  14. The whole process can be completed within 15 days. This service is offered free of cost.

  • Applicant’s proof of identity (Voter ID / Passport / Aadhaar card / Driving licence)

  • Apart from the above documents, the authorities may ask for additional information or documents. Please provide them for processing.

ValidityEdit

  • As the proclaimed offenders are removed from the list as and when they are arrested or due to other reasons, the report may be valid as per the current scenario.
  • Whereas, the information obtained is a statement or report about the proclaimed offender and doesn’t warrant any validity with respect to period.

  • It is the responsibility of an individual to know, that whoever knowingly harbours a proclaimed offender to prevent his apprehension is liable to be punished with imprisonment up to 7 years.
  • Don’t forget to take all the originals of the document along with a copy for filing the complaint.
  • Incomplete application will be rejected.
  • Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Any person absconding from the court proceeding where the court announces the concerned law enforcement authorities to capture the individual named in the proceeding and make him stand under the watchful eye of the court is declared as a proclaimed offender.
  • This process is useful in verifying the potential tenants, employees, etc. for proclaimed offender.

  • Anyone can arrest a proclaimed offender and hand him over without unnecessary delay to a police officer or the nearest police station.
  • Directors General of Police of all States were asked to mandatorily fill the proclaimed offender's details and their photographs on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
