Maharashtra - Get Information about Stolen Vehicle

Apply In-Person:

  1. To get information about a stolen vehicle, the interested party should approach the nearest police station.
  2. Any person desiring to make an enquiry about the stolen vehicle shall approach the nearest police station.
  3. Contact link please select your district from the dropdown list provided under “District/Police Commissionerates” for respective district portal. Here, use the “Contact Us” menu for contact details.
  4. Please visit the respective office. Meet the respective authority at the office and collect the complaint form (if any) from the concerned authority or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
  5. Once the complaint is ready, please attach the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit it along with a advised fee (if any) to the designated receiving authority.
  6. The applicant is required to provide the details of the vehicle such as registration number, chassis number and engine number.
  7. After receiving the complaint, authorities will check the complaint and documents. If all are in place, the complaint will be accepted.
  8. Authorities will make entries about this complaint in the manual record or electronically using the computer.
  9. The complaint will be processed further. The ”SMS” triggered update on complaint status will be sent to the complainant’s mobile or complainant gets a call from the police station about the complaint status.
  10. The concerned authorities will process the request. Once the required information on the investigation is ascertained, a report will be generated.
  11. Once the processing is over, the report will be submitted to the respective signing authority.
  12. The signing authority will endorse the report with his/her seal after evaluation.
  13. The status will be conveyed to the complainant through an SMS or through phone call.
  14. The complainant shall visit the concerned police station to get the report.
  15. The whole process can be completed in 7 days. Fee related information is provided under the “Fees” section of this page.


Apply Through Vahan Samanvay Portal

  1. Please use the following link to get information about stolen vehicle Link
  2. Now login using user credentials
  3. Receive an OTP on the given mobile number and put it on the box given on screen.
  4. Once logged in, please click on the checkbox or option “Verify status of 2nd hand vehicle (Stolen or Not)” and complete the form prompts as appropriate.
  5. The applicant should complete the online form prompts for Applicant name, City, Pin Code, Mobile number, E-mail ID, Vehicle type, Vehicle make, Registration number, Chasis number, Engine number, Year of manufacture, Color of the vehicle and then click on the “Search” button.
  6. A vehicle enquiry report page with the vehicle details will be provided.
  7. If the vehicle is not stolen and there is no complaint registered, a message “As per the information available with NCRB till date (based on data received from States/UTs police) the above mentioned vehicle has not been reported as stolen by police” will be provided at the bottom of the page.

  • This process is helpful for those buying second hand vehicle.

  • The purpose is to provide a facility to the public to check up status of loss/stolen vehicle as well as pre-check on the 2nd hand vehicles before buying them, so that stolen vehicles are not purchased inadvertently by the public.
