Madagascar - Obtain a Pet Passport
ProcedureEdit
- This completes a pet passport for your dog or cat to enter Madagascar.
- You must obtain an Import Permit for your pet prior to entering Madagascar.
- Your pet must be vaccinated for rabies and various other diseases between 30 days and 12 months of entry.
- Your veterinarian will complete a Veterinary Certificate for Madagascar. Although it is not required, we recommend that a USDA or CFIA licensed veterinarian complete the form and you have it endorsed by the USDA or CFIA if traveling from the United States or Canada. If you are entering Madagascar from another country, the Governing Authority from your country responsible for the import and export of animals should endorse the forms.
- A copy of the Rabies Certificate should also be included for endorsement.
Required DocumentsEdit
To bring in pets, the following documents are required:
- An import permit must be obtained before departure from the Director of the Maritime Wealth Service of the Democratic Republic of Madagascar. Such permit contains all conditions needed for importation.
- A Veterinary health certificate issued by the official veterinary surgeon of the home country and the regional director of the Veterinary Services less than 15 days before shipment. It must provide information on the owner and a complete description of the animal; it must also state that the animal is in good health and that the place of original has not been hit by any contagious disease for the period specified in the permit.
- As for dogs aged more than three months old and cats aged more than six months old, the certificate must also specify that they have been vaccinated against rabies more than one month and less than one year for cats and for dogs aged between 3 and six months old; and more than one month and less than three years for dogs aged more six months old.
