To apply for the national ID for the first time

  1. Complete and submit an application form which can be obtained free of charge in all regional offices of the Ministry of Interior.
  2. Applicant's biometric data will be collected during the process.
  3. Pay the application fee.
  4. The ID card will be issued to the local branch of the Ministry of Interior where you filed your application within 15 days after the application was submitted.


To replace an identity card

The identity card should be replaced in the following cases:

  • Expiring ID card: You can apply to replace your ID card 30 days before your card expires.
  • If you change your place of residence
  • If there is any change in your name
  • Damaged ID cards: You will be asked to present your damaged card by the official of the Ministry of Interior to determine if the card needs to be replaced.

You must present evidences that will support your application. If you have changed your residential address, you must file your application to the body of Ministry of Interior which issued your last ID card.

Once you have presented all required documents, pay the application fee. You will receive your new card within 15 days from the time you have submitted your application. You will need to surrender your expiring, damaged or old card for cancellation.


For lost or stolen ID cards

  1. Immediately report the incident to the body of the Ministry of Interior which issued your identification card.
  2. Fill out a statement.
  3. Your application to obtain a new ID card is filed at the branch of Ministry of Interior which issued the lost ID card.
  4. Notices about the lost ID card must be published in the "Official Gazette." The applicant will be the one to shoulder the expenses.


Note: In case you find the lost ID card, you must immediately surrender the card to the body of Ministry of Interior which issued the card.

EligibilityEdit

Citizens of the Republic of Macedonia who has turned 18 years old may apply to obtain a national ID.

To get an ID card, applicants must have a registered residence (either permanent or temporary residence).

The ID card can be issued to a citizen who has turned 15 years of age after a personal request, consent of the parents, guardian or legal representative must be obtained.


Note: Only one card is issued per citizen

Need for the DocumentEdit

A Macedonian National ID is a public document that proves the identity, citizenship, residence and domicile of its holder. Every citizen of Macedonia who has turned 18 years old must have an identity card.

Following are procedures on how you can obtain a Macedonian National ID.



Information which might helpEdit

You will be liable to pay a penalty amounting to 20 to 80 denars if:

  • You have more than one identity card
  • You are under 18, and you have an ID card
  • If you submitted a fake birth certificate
  • You are using an expired identity card
  • You did not apply for a replacement ID card 30 days prior to its expiry or within 15 days after the official of the Ministry of Interior asked you to replace your damaged or decrepit ID card
  • You did not apply for a replacement ID card after you have changed residence or your name
  • You gave your ID card to another person to be used by him/her
  • You did not surrendered your old ID card for cancellation.


You will be liable to pay a penalty amounting to 30 denars if:

  • You do not carry with you an identification card or you refuse to show an official of the Ministry of Interior your ID card when they asked you to.



Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

The identity card can be used for traveling to and remaining in Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro for 90 days, the same as with a passport. Travel to Serbia with the identity card is allowed for 60 days, also the same as with a passport.
