Need for the DocumentEdit

A driving permit is issued to authorize the holder drive / ride a vehicle on the road. In Liberia, there are three types of licenses issued to drivers namely: - the ordinary driver's license, the taxi drivers license and the heavy duty driver license. Issuance of these licenses is jointly done by the Ministries of Transport and Justice and Liberian National Police, however renewal of the document however is done at the Ministry of Transport alone.

Information which might helpEdit

1.Applicants are advised not to use vehicles on the road when license expires; they are advised to always renew their permits in time in order to avoid penalties if found driving with an expired license;

2.If a drivers license is lost or misplaced, an applicant can apply for a duplicate license.

  • He / she is therefore advised to immediately report to police about the incident as letter from police shall be required upon application for a duplicate license.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

  • Renew of license means a person can drive on the road after the originally issued permit expires;
  • A new drivers license can be used as identification card;
  • The renewal process help in updating data at the issuing agency
