Procedure

1.Applicants should start by finding a liable insurance company. A list of insurance companies can be viewed at http://www.westafricadirectory.com/Liberia/Banking_and_Finance/Insurance.html;;

2.When an insurance company is identified, the applicant must then go to its offices to find out the motor insurance policies offered.

3.The applicant then proceeds with choosing a policy that best suits his / her needs.

4.Find out what is required in order to obtain the insurance policy;

5.Thereafter, prepare all required documents;

6.Then obtain application form for the insurance policy from the insurance company chosen and fill it correctly;

7.Attach all required documents on to the filled form and submit documents to the insurance company; and

8.Make any necessary payments;

9.At the insurance company, the documents submitted are assessed to decide on whether the applicant suits for the required policy or not;

10.If documents are approved, the insurance company grants policy to the vehicle and an insurance certificate is issued;

Motor Vehicle Insurance involves insuring a motor vehicle against any kinds of liability. The Ministry of Transport in Liberia with the help of police ensures that motor vehicles are insured.

1.It is important to note that possibilities of changing an issued insurance policy depend on the issuing insurance company;

2.Insurance companies do not cater for liabilities resulting from:

• Careless driving;
• Usage of vehicles that it is not insured;
• Driving while drunk, driving by an underage or physically / mentally ill person or being driven by a person with no legal authority (drivers license);
• Excess loading shall also not be covered

1.If a vehicle is insured and an accidents occurs, the insurance companies cater for transportation costs from the place of accident;
