ProcedureEdit

The procedure to be followed to Export goods in Liberia is given below.

  • Obtain an Export permit, if the types of goods require you to be checked before packing.
  • The first thing you should do is to ensure that all goods to be Exported meet Liberian standards as well as international standard prescribed by General Authority for Import/Export/Quality Control in Liberia at the Ministry of Commerce and industries.
  • The Exporter should obtain documents from the Supplier/s then forwards the documents to the Clearing Agent.
  • Then the clearing agent sends an export declaration with supporting documents to the Customs Officer charged with exports.
  • The Customs Officer then verifies both the Customs entry(declaration) and the attached supporting documents such as invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, certificate of quality to check the conformity on standards, etc.
  • If there is no inconsistency and that the goods are not being exported contrary to the export control regulations, the Customs officer followed by issuance of receipt and acceptance of an entry in system.
  • The officer will validate the release order, print and issue the exit note to the clearing Agent

Need for the DocumentEdit

It has become exceedingly common for companies to do business internationally because modern methods of communication have made this very easy. In addition, many Liberian companies are now operating across international borders. This makes it necessary for them to engage the services of international air freight companies so that they can carry on exporting goods without any interruptions.

Liberia is a country richly endowed with mineral resources and a favourable climate for agriculture. However, it is still considered one of the poorest countries in the world, owing to political unrest and economic mismanagement. Liberias trade also bears the impact of two successive civil wars (1989-96 and 1999-2003). Due to an underdeveloped industrial sector, the country has an unfavorable balance of trade.

According to the 2006 estimates of the CIA World Fact book, Liberias exports stand at US$1.197 billion. The country ranks 144 in the world in terms of total export volumes. Due to an underdeveloped industrial sector, Liberia exports highly depend on agricultural productivity. The major items of export for Liberia are rubber, diamond, timber, iron, coffee and cocoa.

These companies also operate as customs brokers and they help export companies with the large amount of documentation required to ensure that the goods make it across a country's borders without any interruption or delay.

If you are planning to export goods to Liberia you can consider the steps discussed in this procedure.
